Malcolm
Stewart Managing Director, Liverpool Ventures
Malcolm Stewart joined Liverpool Ventures from Avecia Ltd.
He has run a number of technology based, early stage business units
based in Europe and the USA.
He has service as a board member of spin out companies in the USA
and Germany working with them from start up through to investor exit.
His career spans more than 20 years directing and delivering strategy
and business performance. He has worked internationally in advanced
materials, speciality chemicals and biotechnology.
Experience of working with both large corporate organisations and
small medium enterprises will bring valuable insight and guidance
and vision for the fast growing fledgling businesses which currently
form the Liverpool Seed Fund Portfolio.
Malcolm brings to Liverpool Ventures particular strengths in:

Janet
Butler
Business Consultant
Janet has a degree in Business
Studies and a Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and
Supply. She has over 20 years experience in the telecoms arena with
Marconi (and its predecessors) having undertaken roles in commercial
and project management as well as a period of time in corporate finance
which took her into the world of mergers and acquisitions. Her most
recent role was one of Procurement Director responsible for the commercial
relationships with Electronic Manufacturing Service providers who
supplied the group.
Janet is well versed in the sale and procurement of Equipment, Software
and Services having negotiated and managed numerous licenses, development,
distribution, supply and service level agreements with domestic and
international customers as well as suppliers
Janet is also a member of the board for City Growth Liverpool.

Lorna
Green MSc, MBA Business
Consultant
Lorna Green joined Liverpool Ventures after working for us as a consultant,
having set up her own Business Consultancy Service in 2006.
Medtech Consultancy focused on working with start up companies in
medical and healthcare sectors to help shape business plans and fund
raise, and to provide commercial due diligence for investors in healthcare
companies.
In 2004 Lorna joined Healthcare Enterprise Group PLC as Marketing
Director to manage the commercialization of the Ebiox advanced decontamination
product range and develop a portfolio of innovative medical devices.
Her previous roles have been with Vernon-Carus Limited, supplier to
the NHS, where she was a Marketing Manager for the £40 million
healthcare business. During her time at Vernon-Carus she successfully
sourced and launched eight new product ranges and was responsible
for the strategy on products in the perioperative care, infection
control and wound care sector. Prior to Vernon-Carus Lorna spent four
years at Fresenius-Kabi UK, a £20 million Enteral Nutrition
business. Involved initially in sales management and business development,
before becoming Marketing Manager and representing the UK business
at an international level.
Lorna started her career as a registered NHS State Registered Dietician.

Lever Business Consultant
David’s experience, knowledge & skills include business
leadership & management, business strategy formulation & execution,
operational leadership & management, financial management &
control, project management, change management, acquisitions, joint
ventures & divestments, re-engineering, restructuring & re-organisation,
business turnaround, launching a business and obtaining funding.
He provides business advice and guidance, project management
& consultancy solutions to Liverpool Ventures clients.
His career includes: running his own consultancy practice, 21 years
with a speciality water treatment chemicals and services company in
senior management roles contributing at both strategic and operational
levels including leading finance and other commercial areas, project
and general management. Prior to that 7 years in a major chemical
manufacturing company in various financial management roles and an
earlier 5∏ years with a number of different companies in a variety
of business sectors. |

Steven
J Smith ICT Consultant
Steven J Smith is the ICT Sector Director for Merseyside, Chief Executive
of Merseyside ICT.* and a panel member for the Merseyside ICT invest
fund.
He delivers Board level support to Liverpool Seed Fund Investees.
Steve has previously been group director of an international £600m
computer reseller, distributor and E-commerce company where he helped
develop the company for sale to Specialist Computer Holdings in 1998.
Steve then became General Manager of a European Networking and Infrastructure
Service Company that delivered multi country services into the European
Telecoms’ market.
More recently he helped launch an innovative Irish Technical Support
company in Dublin which uses Location Based Service technology to
track and manage dispersed field forces.
He has also founded and managed a mainstream consulting practice which
designed and implemented the networked infrastructure of many UK corporations
and worked as Technical Services Director of a Boston based
leader in E-Commerce where he set up the ERP team that dominated its
market sector by providing SAP prepared servers for the global market.
*The ICT Sector Development Programme is funded by Government Office
North West and the North West Development Agency.

Gillian
Hunt
Business Development Manager
Gillian has worked for Trinity Mirror in new product development and
key account management. She recently worked on the development and
publication of the Liverpool Daily Post high profile business magazine
Liverpool Vision.
This quarterly magazine was launched as a partnership publication
with private and public sector organisations aiming to showcase positive
developments shaping the changes taking place in the Liverpool region
through profiling achievements in entrepreneurship, regeneration and
culture.
Gillian is a chartered marketer and member of the CIM.

Darren Gowling
Investment Director, Liverpool Seed Fund
Seven and a half years venture capital experience, including three
years in Manchester and 2 and a half years in Cardiff. Trained with
the British Venture Capital Association.
Worked with regional venture capital specialist Innvotec in Manchester
between 1996 and 1999. Focused on sub-£1 million equity investments
spread across a range of sectors including internet, telecoms, manufacturing
and biotechnology.
Moved to Cardiff in November 1999 to join early stage, technology-biased
Wales Innovation Fund as Investment Manager. Fourteen deals completed
across engineering, IT, environmental technology, electronics and
internet sectors.
Joined Alliance Fund Managers in 2002 as part of the team managing
the new £80m Objective One Fund on behalf of the Merseyside
Special Investment Fund.
A BSc, DBA graduate, joined major PLC from university prior to the
move into the venture capital industry. Top

Mike
Bakewell Investment Manager Liverpool Seed Fund
Mike has a wealth of experience in venture capital and his role at
MSIF involves appraising the growing number of funding applications
to the new £27m Liverpool Seed Fund.
Prior to joining MSIF, Mike worked for three years at Finance Wales
Equity as a Senior Investment Manager. Top

Rajesh
Sharma Investment Manager, Liverpool Seed Fund
Rajesh joined Merseyside Special Investment Funds Liverpool
Seed Fund from the Royal and Sun Alliance where he worked as their
Marine Revenue Accountant.
Rajeshs other previous roles include financial accountant at
United Utilities and Finance Manager at Internal Window Systems Ltd.
Educated at Liverpool John Moores University, where he achieved a
BA Hons in Accountancy and Finance, Rajesh is also a member of the

Andy
Rigby
Venture Capitalist
Andy brings to Liverpool Ventures Board a wealth of experience in
the Venture Capital World.
He was instrumental in establishing the North West Equity Fund , acted
as a director of Nat West Ventures and has also served as a pro-active
non-executive director, as well as an independent corporate financial
consultant.
He is currently as a board member of Alliance Fund Managers.
Andy is a graduate of Lancaster University, and a member of the Institute
