Most Technology Transfer Offices are not short of good technology,
they are short of good licensees. This is not surprising – it’s
much easier to apply for a patent than it is to find a licensee and
this is one of the principal reasons why we typically (as a sector)
license less than 20% of the patents we take out.
|
This course focuses on licensing - the part of the technology transfer
‘process’ that starts after we’ve filed a patent
and finishes once we’ve signed the deal. We assume that the
decision has been taken to seek a licensee for the technology (rather
than to exploit by means of a spin out). We then explore how best
to identify potential licensees, persuade them that they want our
technology and conclude equitable and watertight deals with them. |
In common
with other Praxis courses, all sessions are led by experienced practitioners
who have, between them, licensed hundreds of technologies. The course
will comprise taught sessions, case studies and an opportunity to
discuss your own problem licensing cases.
