Wednesday 28 May
The Board Room MSIF 4.00 -6.00pm
You are invited to a surgery on Grants for Research and
Development and related IP issues.
Some businesses within the Liverpool Seed Fund Portfolio have already
benefited from a grant for research and development enabling them
maximise the development of their business. Grants for research
and development are to encourage businesses to carry out projects
that they would not necessarily undertake without the grant. NWDA
will advise.
Are you in the process of licensing your intellectual property,
or building up protection for intellectual property? Mark
Shipley specialist IP lawyer with a practical attitude
to business will answer any of your questions.

Grant for Research & Development is a Department
for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) scheme, which replaced
the former DTI's 'Smart' scheme. It aims to help start-ups and SMEs
carry out research and development work on technologically innovative
products and processes.
Mark Shipley is an intellectual property and IT
lawyer with an untraditional approach. He started up Shipley Solicitors
over two and a half years ago and has been based here at LSP for
most of that time. The seven strong boutique practice is already
recognised for its quality and unique take on service provision.
Dr Peter Jackson is co-founder and CEO of Reaxa
Ltd, a specialist catalyst company based in Manchester, formally
part of Avecia and Zeneca. Previously Pete was Vice President
of Avecia's Pharmaceutical Products business unit, with specific focus
on invention, development and commercialisation of new chemical
process technologies. Pete is also founder and director of
Bradford Pharma Ltd, a niche drug discovery company based in MerseyBio,
Liverpool, and is a director of Favonia Ltd, a start-up company
exploiting a new technology project with Liverpool University in
the renewable energy sector. In the wider industry, Pete is
a board member of NSAPI - the National Skills Academy for Chemicals,
Polymers & Pharmaceuticals.
He has two GRAND research awards running right now - one at Bradford
Pharma in MerseyBio and one at Reaxa in Manchester.
