£10,000 cash prize for innovators
Lloyd Grossman launched the 2006 Merseyside Innovation Awards
at Liverpool Science Park last night.
The award aims to recognise and reward the use of innovation as
a means of boosting growth and profitability.
Merseyside Innovation Award is open to individuals or companies
with less than 50 employees who are based within Merseyside. They
will be eligible to win £10,000 cash, £4,000 of consultancy
from some of the regions leading business advisors and publicity
for their idea.
Chair of the judging panel, Brian McCann, Managing Partner of
Hurst and Co said: "Over the last few years the number of
applications has soared. Merseyside is a breeding ground for many
world-class innovations and the next few months will be an exciting
time as we examine all the entries and select the shortlist. I
would urge anyone with a great idea or product to fill in an application
form and see what happens."
Liverpool Ventures is a sponsor of the awards. Steve Nesbitt CEO
of Liverpool Ventures assesses businesses before application to
the Liverpool Seed Fund. He said "Im looking forward
to being involved with the businesses applying to the Merseyside
Innovation award. There is so much innovative creativity on Merseyside
that this year promises to bring even more entrants. There is
now -for the first time -£27m cash available from the Liverpool
Seed Fund to enable these ideas to be commercialised. All businesses
gaining an investment from Liverpool Seed Fund will automatically
qualify for Liverpool Ventures Support."
Each month from now until May a monthly winner will be selected
to join the shortlist before the grand final in July where three
finalists showcase their products before an audience of entrepreneurs
and other leading figures in the business community.
Each monthly winner will receive a commemorative certificate and
a licence to use the Awards for marketing purposes.
